Getting Lincoln County Court Records
Lincoln County Combined Courts keeps the case files. Both Lincoln County District Court and County Court are covered. One clerk office handles felony, major civil, domestic-relations, probate, juvenile, misdemeanor, traffic, small-claims, protection-order, and county-civil records. The elected Lincoln County Clerk and Recorder does county recording work. That office does not hold Judicial Branch case files. Limon Municipal Court keeps its own municipal record.
Each way in serves a purpose. The free state docket finds a scheduled Lincoln County event. A Judicial Branch-listed commercial vendor supplies real-time Lincoln County ROA data. The statewide online form covers an ROA or a named document. You can also phone the Lincoln County clerk. Email, the counter, or a mailed request work too. Ask whether a file can be inspected at the court facility. The published fax reaches the office only. Lincoln Combined Courts says it does not accept faxed documents.
- Identify District Court, County Court, or a municipal court and locate the case number.
- Choose the ROA for chronology or name the exact order, judgment, ticket, pleading, or probate filing.
- Submit the Record/Document Request Form, visit, call, email, or mail the clerk.
- Ask for a plain, certified, or exemplified copy based on the receiving office's needs.
- Review the clerk's quote and payment directions before production begins.
Lincoln Court Records Have Layers
A Lincoln County calendar entry answers one question. An ROA and a filed paper each answer a different one. The free Colorado Docket Search exists to find Lincoln County settings. The ROA is a chronological index of filings and events in the case. The filed document holds the actual terms. Certification adds the clerk's authentication to an eligible copy.
| Record Layer | What It Answers | Where to Obtain It |
|---|---|---|
| Docket or calendar | When and where is the case set? | Free Judicial Branch Docket Search. |
| Register of Action | What filings and events appear in sequence? | Listed real-time vendor or Lincoln clerk. |
| Filed document | What does the order, pleading, or judgment actually say? | Lincoln clerk request or permitted facility inspection. |
| Certified copy | Is the copy authenticated by the clerk? | Requested from the clerk for an added fee. |
The Judicial Branch posts no Lincoln County trial-court document images on its public site, and its listed ROA vendors do not supply copies either. A one-line entry like “order entered” tells you something happened. It is not the order itself. When exact wording matters, request the named document.
Court Record Types
Lincoln County court records span the case index. They also include the individual documents created or filed during the case. The Lincoln County request form breaks these into record-specific choices. Criminal options include a Lincoln County disposition or sentence order. A protection order and a ticket are also choices. The civil side offers an order for judgment. You can also pick a transcript of judgment, a certificate of satisfaction, or a protection order. Probate choices cover letters, wills, trusts, applications, petitions, closing papers, and claims.
- Register of Action or ROA, the chronological case summary.
- Pleadings, motions, responses, notices, and service records.
- Minute orders, signed orders, judgments, and dispositions.
- Probate filings available to the requester under the applicable access rule.
- Certified or exemplified copies of eligible records.
A courtroom transcript is ordered through the court reporter or transcription channel. Do not check “Transcript of Judgment” for one. That $25 clerk document records a judgment for civil enforcement. It is not a word-for-word account of a hearing.
Lincoln Online Record Request Route
The statewide form first asks for your contact and mailing details. Then it wants the Lincoln County case number and the product. Choose ROA for a brief case history that can include charges, sentences, and minute orders. Pick a named document when you know its title. Adding the filing date and court division can cut down the clerk's research time. Certification or exemplification is a separate selection.
The Lincoln FAQ points record seekers to this form. It also lists the clerk channel for questions. Expect a response within three business days unless extenuating circumstances exist. A large request, an off-site file, consultation needs, redaction work, or unusual demand can stretch that window. Court access rules allow this. Production may also wait on payment.
Request tip: A narrow request for one dated order is easier to price and fulfill than a demand for every item in a long file.
Inside a Lincoln County Court Record
A full Lincoln County case file can hold material no remote search will show. The ROA is your map. It identifies the case, the parties where public, the filings, the settings, the rulings, and the disposition entries. Behind those entries sit the accessible documents themselves. Exhibits and protected portions may need separate review.
| Case Header | Case number, class, court, division, filing date, status, and case type. |
|---|---|
| Parties and Counsel | Role-labeled participants and attorneys, with protected data withheld. |
| Pleadings | Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, responses, and related filings. |
| Settings | Notices, hearing dates, continuances, resets, and courtroom events. |
| Orders and Judgments | Signed rulings, dispositions, sentence orders, or civil judgments. |
| Post-Judgment Entries | Appeals, satisfaction, enforcement, or later review where applicable. |
Status words are no substitute for the final order. “Disposed” is administrative shorthand. The judgment or disposition entry carries the controlling details of the Lincoln County case.
Lincoln Court Records Clerk

Fees and Certified Copies
A plain copy works fine for reading and reference. A certified copy carries clerk authentication. An exemplified copy adds enhanced authentication through the same request line. Check with the receiving court or agency about which form it requires before you pay. If a listed amount changes, the live request form and current fee directive control.

A fee waiver is available when Chief Justice Directive 06-01 or C.R.S. section 13-32-104 requires one. The form itself prints no Lincoln County payment details. Instead, wait for the Lincoln County clerk's quote and instructions.
Older Lincoln Court Record Volumes
Not every Lincoln County court record is searchable online. The old paper trail runs deeper than any docket search reaches. Colorado State Archives finding aids catalog Lincoln County civil and criminal series from 1889, plus an Index to Court Records covering 1890 through 1916. Judgment dockets, record books, civil Registers of Action, and probate material appear there too. So some requests shift from the clerk to off-site retrieval or an archives search.
When you write, give the approximate year, the party name, the Lincoln County case type, and any volume or index reference. Archived retrieval is billed at actual cost. The county's switch from bound docket volumes to later Register of Action books also means the same historical search may go by two different names. And remember: an online miss proves nothing. The record may still exist.
Lincoln Hearing Transcript Requests
A verbatim transcript goes through Colorado's JDF 4 process. The request spells out the case, county, caption, division or courtroom, judicial officer, and event date. It also states whether the whole event or just part of it is needed. A transcriptionist then contacts you about payment before any work begins. Ordinary service runs $3.60 per page, generally delivered within 30 calendar days. Expedited service costs $4.35 per page, generally within ten days. Overnight and hourly rates need a court order. Additional-copy and audio rates are separate. Check current CJD 05-03 rates before filing. Transcript charges can change. This channel stands apart from the clerk's ROA and copy request.
Sealed Records and Public Access
Chief Justice Directive 05-01 sets Colorado's main policy on public access to court records. It covers remote and facility access, excluded records, custodian duties, timing, fees, and corrections. Vendor use is covered too. Chief Justice Directive 06-01 governs court fees and costs. The Colorado Open Records Act handles public records broadly. Judicial Branch case records, though, answer chiefly to court rules and directives.
Access rules: Juvenile, dependency and neglect, adoption, some probate and mental-health material, sealed files, and protected identifiers can be withheld or limited. Photo ID may prove identity, but it does not create access rights.
Sealed, suppressed, restricted, redacted, and expunged each mean something different. An authorized requester seeking protected material should contact the clerk, cite the source of the claimed access right, and show identification if directed. Any required court order must be obtained too. No commercial service can override a restriction. Start with a Lincoln County case lookup when the case number is unknown. Then send the document request to the proper custodian.
